Axel Rudakubana, the Southport killer, is being investigated after allegedly attacking a prison officer at HMP Belmarsh. The attack reportedly happened on Thursday, and the prison officer was hurt when Rudakubana threw boiling water on them. The officer was taken to the hospital but was later released the same day after being checked.

The Ministry of Justice confirmed the incident, saying that the officer’s health was being monitored and that the police were investigating the attack. The Prison Service also said that violence against staff in prison will not be accepted, and they will push for the toughest punishment for anyone who harms their workers.

Rudakubana, who is 18 years old, was sentenced in January 2025 to at least 52 years in prison for the murder of three young girls. The murders happened on July 29, 2024, in Southport, Merseyside, during a Taylor Swift-themed dance class. Rudakubana murdered three young girls: seven-year-old Elsie Dot Stancombe, nine-year-old Alice Aguiar, and six-year-old Bebe King.

He assaulted eight other children, the dance class instructor, Leanne Lucas, and a businessman, John Hayes, who attempted to intervene. Rudakubana was found guilty on three charges of murder, ten charges of attempted murder, and various other charges, including manufacturing ricin and owning terrorist documents and a knife.

A public inquiry into the Southport murders began in April 2025 to look into the details of the attack. In February 2025, the Attorney General decided not to review Rudakubana’s prison sentence, meaning he will not be eligible for release until he serves at least 52 years in prison.

The attack on the prison guard is being given serious attention since it is exposing the threat that violent criminals such as Rudakubana pose in the prisons. The government is taking action to make sure prison workers are secure and people who carry out violence receive heavy punishment.
