Leaders from the UK, France, and Canada have issued a strong warning to Israel regarding its military actions in Gaza. They demand that Israel halt its new offensive and allow humanitarian aid into Gaza following the recent military operation launched last Friday. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel has stated that the objective is to control all of Gaza.
Since March, Israel has imposed a blockade on Gaza, preventing medical supplies, food, and fuel from entering. This blockade is aimed at pressuring Hamas, the group responsible for taking hostages in October 2023. However, international experts warn that this blockade has pushed Gaza towards a severe famine.
In a joint statement, the Western leaders declared the following:
- Israel’s refusal to provide essential aid is unacceptable and may violate international law.
- They oppose Israel’s plans to expand settlements in the West Bank.
- Potential further actions, including targeted sanctions, may follow if Israel continues its current course.
The leaders also expressed support for peace efforts led by the US, Qatar, and Egypt which aim for:
- An immediate ceasefire.
- A two-state solution.
While emphasizing Israel’s right to defend itself, the leaders called the recent escalation disproportionate. For the latest updates on this developing situation, stay tuned to Questiqa Europe News.
