The Socialists and Democrats (S&Ds) group has urged the European Commission in Brussels to continue providing financial support for ongoing projects under the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) beyond the year 2026. The RRF is recognized as the EU’s primary mechanism to aid member states in overcoming recent economic difficulties through funding critical development and reform initiatives.
The S&Ds emphasize that many projects are still in their advanced stages and require continued investment to guarantee their success and lasting impact. They warn that any reduction or cessation of funding in 2026 could jeopardize the progress achieved so far in various member countries.
This request coincides with the Commission’s review of its budget and strategic priorities for upcoming years. The S&Ds argue that extending RRF funding is essential to:
- Consolidate economic recovery
- Promote social cohesion
- Advance green transformation across Europe
Maintaining financial backing will also support key areas such as infrastructure development, digital transformation, and climate objectives, thereby enhancing the EU’s resilience against potential future crises. The group stresses that Europe must preserve its momentum and continue investing in promising projects that are currently underway.
