Authorities in Germany have launched an intensive manhunt following the discovery of three bodies in the town of Weitefeld, located in the Rhineland-Palatinate region, early Sunday morning. The victims a 47-year-old man, a 44-year-old woman, and a 16-year-old boy were found dead inside a residence, prompting police to search for a male suspect reportedly seen fleeing the scene.
The town of Weitefeld, home to about 2,000 residents and situated around 30 kilometers (19 miles) from the city of Siegen, is now at the center of a widespread police operation. Authorities have urged locals to remain indoors, keep their windows shut, and avoid picking up strangers or hitchhikers as the search intensifies.
A police spokesperson confirmed that the investigation currently points to a “family-related” motive, suggesting the victims and the suspect may have been known to each other. Weitefeld Mayor Karl-Heinz Keßler also indicated that all individuals involved were longtime residents of the area.
Emergency Call May Have Come From One of the Victims
Police received an emergency call at approximately 3:45 a.m. reporting a violent incident. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility that the call may have come from one of the victims.
Investigators believe both a firearm and a bladed weapon were used in the attack. However, specific details about the cause of death and the suspect’s identity have not yet been made public.
Manhunt Underway
Tactical police units similar to SWAT teams and a helicopter have been deployed to assist in the search. The suspect was last seen leaving the residence around the time police arrived, but as of Sunday evening, no arrests have been made.
While police are taking significant precautions, they stressed that there is no immediate threat to the general public. Nevertheless, authorities remain on high alert and continue to search the area throughout the night.
Residents in surrounding villages are also being advised to remain cautious as the investigation continues.
