Moscow, Russia – On Tuesday, Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin publicly blamed the European Union (EU), US President Joe Biden, and his supporters for the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Volodin accused these parties of fueling tensions that led to the current crisis. He made these statements during a press conference held in Moscow.
Volodin argued that the EU’s expansion policies and Biden’s administration’s support for Ukraine have escalated the situation in Eastern Europe. He indicated that these factors directly contributed to the outbreak and continuation of hostilities.
The State Duma Speaker emphasized the role of Western nations in shaping the conflict’s dynamics. He called for a reassessment of Western actions and expressed concern over what he described as aggressive approaches to the region. Volodin’s comments reflect the official Russian stance that Western interference has been the main driver behind the Ukraine tensions.
Volodin further condemned the support that Ukraine receives from NATO countries, stating it undermines peace efforts. He warned that continuing such support would lead to further instability and suffering in the region. His remarks came amid ongoing diplomatic talks and several ceasefire attempts to resolve the fighting.
The conflict in Ukraine began in early 2022 following Russia’s military actions in the region. Since then, it has involved multiple actors, including:
- Ukrainian forces
- Russian troops
- International partners of both sides
Western countries, particularly the EU and the US, have offered significant military and economic aid to Ukraine.
The tensions have also triggered widespread concern across Europe, leading to sanctions against Russia and shifts in security policies. Volodin’s comments underline Moscow’s perspective that the West is primarily responsible for prolonging the conflict.
International efforts to reach a peaceful resolution continue as diplomats from various countries engage in negotiations. However, disagreements on key issues remain a challenge for peace talks.
