The Socialists and Democrats (S&Ds) group in the European Parliament has urged the European Commission to extend funding for ongoing projects under the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) beyond 2026. The RRF is a crucial funding mechanism designed to assist European Union member states in recovering from recent economic crises.

The S&Ds highlighted several key reasons for their call to action:

  • Continuous support for mature projects: These projects play an important role in fostering economic growth and social development across Europe.
  • Risks of premature fund termination: Stopping funds too early could endanger the successful completion of initiatives aimed at strengthening economies, as well as supporting green and digital transitions.
  • Stable funding guarantees: Ensuring financial stability will allow these projects to reach their full potential and provide sustained benefits.

The Recovery and Resilience Facility has been central to the EU’s strategy focusing on:

  1. Innovation
  2. Climate change mitigation
  3. Social welfare enhancement

Maintaining funding beyond 2026 is essential to sustain the positive momentum initiated by the RRF and to deliver long-term benefits to European citizens.
